2011 Annual Schooner Wharf Bar Wreckers Cup Race Series
Sailing vessels of all sizes race to the reef - a nod to Key West's history of wrecking. In the early 19th century, when a vessel ran aground on the reef, sailboats would race from Key West to save the crew and claim the cargo. Just like then, first one to reach the reef wins bragging rights, trophies, and prizes. Race starts at 1pm in the Key West Harbor. Vessels interested in participating must attend the Captains' meeting held at 7pm the Saturday before the race. Race time is at 1pm Sunday. Awards Ceremony and Party is at 7pm Sunday - which includes BBQ and video of the race. For more information, call 305-292-3302. *Above info found from http://www.keywesttravelguide.com/calendar.html
